Anti-Oppressive Learning and Practice Labs
The monthly Anti-Oppressive Learning and Practice Labs will take place virtually and cover a variety of topics related to social justice, equity and inclusion, and social work with an emphasis on critical reflection, building skills, and collective action. They are open to BUSSW faculty, staff, and students only and will follow a workshop format.
During the first 30 minutes, there is a presentation on a specific anti-oppressive practice technique. The final 30 minutes of the lab will give participants the opportunity to reflect on their experiences individually and collectively, engage in whole group discussions, and practice skills in breakout rooms.

Anti-Oppressive Teaching Mentorship
Cultivating an anti-oppressive teaching pedagogy requires a commitment to ongoing critical reflection and the capacity to deconstruct assumptions about the world. Instructors, staff, and PhD students will have the opportunity to meet individually with the associate dean of equity & inclusion to reflect on anti-oppressive frameworks, classroom dynamics, and course content.
Please email Dawn Belkin Martinez at dawnbm@bu.edu to schedule a mentoring session. Sessions can be held in person at the Charles River Campus or virtually.
Reproductive Justice & Social Work: A Learning Community
In order to learn how we, as social workers, can reimagine abortion access and reproductive health services in the U.S., the Equity & Inclusion Committee will hold reproductive justice learning communities. The initiative will feature speakers and trainers from local reproductive health organizations and abortion fund agencies.
Sessions are generally held on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 6pm (ET) on Zoom and are open to BUSSW students, staff and faculty.
Past Sessions:
Reproductive Justice Career Panel [4/20/23]
In place of our regular learning community, we are inviting 3-4 panelists to share their career trajectories and experiences in the reproductive justice space. All BUSSW students, staff, and faculty are invited to attend.
The Reproductive Justice & Social Work Learning Community is co-sponsored by BUSSW’s Equity & Inclusion Committee and Academic Affairs. Go here to learn more about our Reproductive Justice Learning Community.
