BU’s virtual symposium Faculty Forum 2021 – happening Monday, May 10th from 1-4 p.m. (ET) – will feature two innovative faculty from BUSSW: Research Professor Bronwyn Keefe discussing the evolution of The Network for Professional Education; and Clinical Associate Professor Dawn Belkin Martinez, associate dean of equity and inclusion, will be the session facilitator for the panel discussion: Applying Inclusion and Equity Principles in the Classroom.

During Prof. Keefe’s session, Pedagogical Experimentation with the Digital Education Incubator (“the Incubator”), Keefe will detail how the Incubator supported the creation of The Network, an innovative new entity that will function as a nexus to connect alumni, faculty, and external agencies. The session will be facilitated by Romy Ruukel, director of Digital Initiatives, and feature panelists from two other BU schools in addition to the School of Social Work.

Keefe is the director of the nationally-known Center for Aging and Disability Education and Research (CADER) and Professional Education Programs (PEP), which will operate under this new overarching model called The Network for Professional Education, designed to be a one-stop hub for professionals and organizations working in health and social services. The new model will partner with the School’s talented pool of alumni and faculty to create a compendium of teaching and learning opportunities – one that will grow their talents while sharing their established expertise with organizations nationwide through an interactive database designed to be a one-stop resource.

Belkin Martinez, a clinical associate professor, is a social worker, educator, and trainer with more than 30 years of experience in family therapy, substance misuse, trauma, liberation health practice with immigrant communities, and popular education. She champions a racial justice-focused clinical model of social work practice. She will facilitate a session featuring four BU faculty discussing how they incorporate inclusion and equity principles into their teaching.

The Faculty Forum 2021 is hosted by Digital Learning & Innovation, which includes the Center for Teaching & Learning, Educational Technology, and Digital Initiatives with contributions and support from Boston University faculty and staff from dozens of BU Schools, Colleges, and Departments.

The instructor-focused event is designed to showcase faculty ingenuity and resilience, and celebrate innovations in teaching and technology at BU.
