Omar Heriba is an online degree student at\u00a0<\/span>Boston University<\/a>, currently pursuing a\u00a0<\/span>Master of Public Health in Health Equity<\/a>\u00a0while working as a senior technical support specialist at a private medical practice. With a passion for advancing his scientific\/technical skills, as well as an interest in technical\/scientific communication and writing, he chose BU for its innovative, prestigious, and flexible online program, allowing him to balance his professional commitments with his studies. BU\u2019s reputation for excellence and the opportunity to learn from distinguished faculty were major draws. His goal is to leverage this degree to move into more strategic health care roles and contribute to cutting-edge projects in his field.<\/span><\/p>\n

When applying for your online program, did you have any concerns about how to balance your work, your personal life, and your studies?<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Going into this program, I was nervous about whether I could balance the coursework with work as well as hobbies. Every university program has its paradigm for learning and I did not know exactly what to expect. This was also my first graduate-level program. I think naturally this is the case for starting any new university program.<\/span><\/p>\n

How easy has it been to transition to studying online alongside your existing commitments?<\/strong><\/h4>\n

It has been much smoother than I expected. The design of the program allows for asynchronous learning. It caters to morning and evening schedules when it comes to live lectures. The program is rigorous in content but at the same time reasonably paced for students with busy schedules. I was in another online program before this and this program is a major improvement in numerous ways.<\/span><\/p>\n

What changes did you need to make in order to make time to study?<\/strong><\/h4>\n

I made it a point to consistently study and complete assignments everyday, including on weekends when I would not have plans. This allows me to keep a consistent level of learning over time. It would also give me plenty of time to complete more difficult assignments or ask appropriate questions when needed.<\/span><\/p>\n

Do you have any tips for students who are new to working online to help them succeed?<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Online programs allow larger and more diverse cohorts of students to engage in learning on their own time. You are able to communicate with students who are not limited by residing near campus. In my program, there are students from all over the world! Online programs give you flexibility. The best tip I would give would be to make that flexibility work best for you! Ultimately, the affordability, value, and flexibility of online programs are significant advantages for those who have other personal\/professional obligations in their lives.<\/span><\/p>\n
