Both BUSPH students and public health professionals are expected to properly references sources in their writing. Public health frequently uses four styles of citation (1):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/guides.lib.monash.edu\/ld.php?content_id=14570618\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vancouver System<\/a><\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www2.le.ac.uk\/library\/help\/citing\/harvard-author-date-system\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Author\/Date (Harvard) System<\/a><\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/library.tu.edu\/_resources\/documents\/AMACitationGuide.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">American Medical Association (AMA) System<\/a><\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/owl.purdue.edu\/owl\/research_and_citation\/apa_style\/apa_style_introduction.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">American Psychological Association (APA) System<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If your professor does not specify what system they would like you to use, choose one and consistently use it in your writing (1). Reference software can help you easily reference while writing. BUSPH students often use two types of reference software:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zotero.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Zotero<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 Watch this\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=5MxLys74nfU&amp;feature=plcp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tutorial<\/a>\u00a0for information on how to install and use Zotero.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mendeley.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mendeley<\/a>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Watch these tutorials for information on how to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=GGtsEm01Cug\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">install<\/a>\u00a0and to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=xLtk6n8cFdk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">use<\/a> Mendeley.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you would like an in-depth overview on citing and use citation software, please see the reference librarians at the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/medlib\/portals\/busdm\/citation-resources\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BU Alumni Medical Library<\/a>\u00a0or view their\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=q9_wWTtyznw&amp;feature=youtu.be\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Citation Management Software Comparison<\/a>. However, be sure to check the references for completeness as the citation software sometimes does not capture all the necessary information.<\/p>\n<p>The BU Libraries offer a <a href=\"http:\/\/library.bu.edu\/citeys\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Citing Your Sources Guide<\/a> with resources on various citation styles, online citation software, and other citation manuals.
