Activist Practicum offers students who are interested in public health advocacy and activism a community to support each other through their projects, professional development opportunities in the Activist Lab, as well as financial support.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<a href=\"\/sph\/files\/2022\/03\/ACTIVIST-LAB-PRACTICUM-REQUIREMENTS.pdf\" class=\"button btn-outline\" >Activist Practicum Requirements<\/a>\n<h2>About the Program<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each academic year, the cohort of Activist Practica will consist of\u00a0 approximately five students who will receive a stipend of up to $5,000 to complete a project with an organization focused on advocacy and activism. Students will have ongoing activism-focused professional development training and community support with their other cohort members through the Activist Lab. To be eligible, a student must meet the following criteria:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Have a practicum already lined up, or have an interest in a specific area of advocacy and activism and be willing to work with the Activist Lab to identify a match.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Student must be currently receiving less than $5,000 ($22 per hour) for their practicum. Funding can either completely cover an otherwise unpaid opportunity, or partial funding can be provided to get the student up to $5,000. For example, if a student receives a $3,000 stipend, they can apply to receive an additional $2,000 of funding.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Practicum must be focused on an area of public health advocacy or activism. While advocacy can look like many different things, some criteria include:\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Focused on changing a system, norm, law, activity, etc. that impacts the health of a community<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Must be working towards long-term, upstream change\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students who have recently begun a practicum or have one lined up are encouraged to apply for this funding. Students who are actively searching for a practicum may also apply, noting their areas of interest and potential practicum they are applying to in the application.
