After escaping the grayness of winter, the BU Medical Campus always delivers an inviting show come April. The flowering trees flanking Talbot Green are at their peak, and the moderate temperatures encourage SPH community members to spend a bit longer outside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Giving Day Visit from Rhett<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

BU’s scrappy Boston terrier mascot Rhett stopped by SPH to encourage support of Giving Day, an annual one-day online fundraising drive. Each year, BU Giving Day brings together Terriers from around the world\u2014alumni, parents, students, faculty and staff, and friends. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

SPH held its Alumni & Friends Giving Day Reception on April 11 at the Boston Harbor Hotel, where alumni, donors, students, and friends gathered to network and celebrate the School. While Giving Day has passed, there are still opportunities available to help support the mission of BUSPH<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cupples Award<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

The 2023 L. Adrienne Cupples Award for Excellence in Teaching, Research, and Service in Biostatistics was awarded to Brian Caffo<\/a>, professor in the Department of Biostatistics at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Caffo will visit BUSPH on April 6 to receive the award and present on his work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The L. Adrienne Cupples Award<\/a> is presented each year by the Department of Biostatistics to recognize a biostatistician whose academic achievements reflect the contributions to biostatistics exemplified by the late L. Adrienne Cupples<\/a>, who was an emeritus professor of biostatistics and epidemiology and the award\u2019s first recipient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Professor Michael Grodin Memorial<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

The SPH community gathered to celebrate the life and work of Michael Grodin<\/a>, a beloved physician and distinguished medical ethicist whose research helped develop unique cross-cultural treatments for survivors of torture and genocide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 27th Annual MCH Networking and Alumni Award Reception<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

Maternal and child health students and researchers honored two of their own on Friday, April 28 at a festive award reception and networking event. Krishna Upadhya, vice president of quality care and health equity at Planned Parenthood Federation of America, and Cherrie Evans, senior maternal and newborn health advisor at Jhpiego, received awards for their work elevating the health of mothers and children across the globe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
