She officially joined the 21-member board at the Society’s 38th Annual Meeting in November 2022.

Founded in 1985, ISTSS is an interdisciplinary professional organization that brings together clinicians and researchers from around the world to advocate for and advance the field of traumatic stress. ISTSS is dedicated to sharing information about the effects of trauma and the discovery and dissemination of knowledge about policy, program, and service initiatives that seek to reduce traumatic stressors and their immediate and long-term consequences.

“I have been a member of ISTSS since 2006, and throughout this time I have learned a lot and made so many great connections thanks to this dedicated group of people,” says Gradus, whose research centers on the epidemiology of trauma and trauma-related disorders, with a particular focus on suicide outcomes. “It is really important to me to volunteer my time for ISTSS so that I can help ensure that the society is still around for future trauma researchers and clinicians to have the same positive experience.”

Gradus will serve on ISTSS’s Board of Directors for three years, with an opportunity to re-run for a second term. Much of her responsibility will include attending meetings to discuss the functioning of ISTSS and provide insights and input about critical decisions the Society may face. In addition to this, all board members must serve as active participants on at least one of ISTSS’s 28 committees and task forces. Gradus will join the Public Health and Policy Committee, which aims to review and make recommendations to the ISTSS President and Executive Committee regarding traumatic stress-related public health and policy issues that may warrant attention or action by ISTSS.

Since joining ISTSS, Gradus has served in a number of leadership positions within the organization. She was previously the co-chair of the Data Management Committee and a four-time member of the Annual Meeting Program Committee.
