For action. For health.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Galea\u2019s comments will be a \u201ccall to arms\u201d for the 13,000 public health professionals in attendance, to take on barriers such as political obstinacy, entrenched racism and inequality, and a fundamental misunderstanding of the way America approaches health.<\/p>\n<p>During the five-day APHA gathering, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sph\/public-health-conversations\/apha\/apha-2019\/apha-2019-abstracts\/\">over 70 faculty, staff, students, and recent graduates from the Boston University School of Public Health will present<\/a>, covering research on everything from Kenyan pharmaceutical trials to noise pollution, from transgender health to college binge drinking, from falls in nursing homes to the experiences of black mothers in Boston. Find times and abstracts for all SPH-affiliated presentations <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sph\/public-health-conversations\/apha\/apha-2019\/apha-2019-abstracts\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the SPH community will also present on some of the ways that the school has become a leader in public health education. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sph\/profile\/lisa-sullivan\/\">Lisa Sullivan<\/a>, associate dean for education and professor of biostatistics, will co-present \u201cTeaching Public Health: Best Practices\u201d on Sunday, November 3. On Tuesday, November 5, Sullivan will also present \u201cEngaging Alumni to Improve and Inform Public Health Curricula and Continuing Education Opportunities Using Qualitative Evaluation Methods\u201d with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sph\/profile\/anneke-demmink\/\">Anneke Demmink<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sph\/profile\/jacey-greece\/\">Jacey Greece<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sph\/profile\/amanda-velez\/\">Amanda Velez<\/a>, and \u201cStorytelling Sparks a School-Wide Conversation about Diversity and Inclusion\u201d with Adriana Black, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sph\/profile\/yvette-cozier\/\">Yvette Cozier<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sph\/profile\/candice-belanoff\/\">Candice Belanoff<\/a>, and Dean Galea.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, November 4, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sph\/profile\/harold-cox\/\">Harold Cox<\/a>, associate dean for public health practice and associate professor of community health sciences, will present on SPH\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sph\/practice\/activist-lab\/\">Activist Lab<\/a>, and how it fosters collaborations between the school and community partners, teaches advocacy skills, and supports students working with local organizations to help meet the needs of SPH\u2019s neighbors.<\/p>\n<p>On the evening of Monday, November 4, SPH will host an <a href=\"http:\/\/bostonu.imodules.com\/s\/1759\/2-bu\/2col.aspx?sid=1759&amp;gid=2&amp;pgid=7484&amp;cid=14355&amp;ecid=14355\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alumni &amp; Friends Reception<\/a> in conjunction with APHA. At the event, Dean Galea will give remarks and present the 2019 Distinguished Alumni Award to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sph\/2019\/10\/01\/evaluation-research-consultant-wins-distinguished-alumni-award\/\">Bahby Banks (SPH&#8217;05)<\/a>, CEO of Pillar Consulting.
