The panel of five academics, who were part of the November meeting, talked about integrating gun violence into public health curriculum, promoting gun violence conversation in politics, creating bigger political movement around gun safety, and the problem of lack of research on firearms.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Two members of the SPH community received awards at the conference. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sph\/profile\/jessica-leibler\/\">Jessica Leibler<\/a>, assistant professor of environmental health, received the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aspph.org\/aspph-announces-2017-aspph-award-winners\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span class=\"s4\">ASPPH Early Career Public Health Teaching Award<\/span><\/a>. The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aspph.org\/aspph-announces-2017-aspph-award-winners\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span class=\"s4\">ASPPH Student Services Excellence Award<\/span><\/a> went to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sph\/profile\/mary-murphy-phillips\/\">Mary Murphy-Phillips<\/a>, director of graduate student life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s5\">Murphy-Phillips also gave a presentation at the conference, &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/aspph.confex.com\/aspph\/2017\/meetingapp.cgi\/Session\/1560\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span class=\"s6\">Student Services Conversation: Supporting International Students During Times of Change<\/span><\/a>.&#8221; Meaghan Agnew, associate director of editorial &amp; social media, presented &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/aspph.confex.com\/aspph\/2017\/meetingapp.cgi\/Session\/1541\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span class=\"s6\">Social Media Best Practices in Recruitment, Student Communication &amp; Branding<\/span><\/a>.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In the conference\u2019s poster session, Amanda Velez, director of graduate programs,\u00a0and Lisa Sullivan, associate dean for education, presented the poster &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/aspph.confex.com\/aspph\/2017\/meetingapp.cgi\/Paper\/2422\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span class=\"s2\">Developing Integrative Learning Experiences for MPH Specializations<\/span><\/a>.&#8221; Velez also presented the poster &#8220;<span class=\"s2\"><a href=\"https:\/\/aspph.confex.com\/aspph\/2017\/meetingapp.cgi\/Paper\/2380\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Acts of Inclusion<\/a>&#8220;<\/span>with Chase Crossno, program manager for lifelong learning. Professor of Community Health Sciences Eugene Declercq presented the poster &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/aspph.confex.com\/aspph\/2017\/meetingapp.cgi\/Paper\/2333\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span class=\"s2\">Integrating the Integrated Core: The BUSPH Project to Develop a Case Study Linking Core Courses<\/span><\/a>.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The SPH <span class=\"s4\">Alumni Reception and Presentations<\/span> were held during the conference at the Army and Navy Club on March 16.
