  1. Dr. Kendi:
I would like to reintroduce Dr. William Lane Watkins to the world.
Dr. Watkins was the first Black male to graduate from the Boston University School of Medicine in 1876. Despite his credentials, he was not able to practice medicine in Massachusetts – doors were slammed, once his “mixed blood” was discovered. He also experienced housing discrimination after he arrived in Prince George’s County, Maryland (circa 1878-79). This and other articles I have written are based on real-life stories, supported by research and affirm that prejudices and injustices that occurred during Reconstruction are still unresolved and are still as painful. May I send stories (max 800 words) to you to review for publication in the Emancipator?

    Sincerely,
    Janis Hagey
