There are 2 comments on The Intersection of Poverty and Disability in India

  1. Sadly none of this surprises me about India. One of the other reasons powering the under-reporting of a disability is the social stigma as it pertains to arranging a marriage. It has long been represented in Indian literature that a disability could also be associated with a birth defect and thus weak/bad DNA. It’s the ultimate game of natural selection and trying to ensure the continuation of the species.

  2. The other reason for under reporting is lack of conception about defining disabilities. The PwD Act 2016 has increased 7 to 21 categories of disabilities thus a wider range of PWD are now covered . Moreover poor people who are disabled and cast aside never come under any statistics.
