El Paso leaders to discuss Borderland issues Thursday during Texas Tribune event at UTEP

A free, daylong event on The Future of the Border Region will take place Thursday at the University of Texas at El Paso.

The event is from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is sponsored by the Texas Tribune. It is open to the public.

Speakers will include U.S. Rep. Veronica Escobar, D-El Paso; state Sen. José Rodríguez, D-El Paso; state Reps. César Blanco, D-El Paso, Mary González, D-Clint, and Joe Moody, D-El Paso; El Paso Mayor Dee Margo; Heather Wilson, UTEP president; Jon Barela, CEO of the Borderplex Alliance; Ali Noorani, executive director of the National Immigration Forum; William Serrata, president of the El Paso Community College District; Miriam Baca Kotkowski, president of Omega Trucking Inc.; Julio Chiu, founder and CEO of SEISA Group; and Linda Rivas, executive director of Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Center.  

The leaders will discuss the most pressing issues in the Borderland.

This gathering is a part of the “Future of” series, which consists of monthly statewide events focused on the future of industries in Texas, as well as recognition of the Texas Tribune’s 10-year anniversary.

It will take place in the Union Building East Room 308 (Tomás Rivera Conference Center) at UTEP. RSVP will include a light breakfast and lunch. A livestream will begin at 8:30 a.m. Mountain Time.
