Sai Zhang is a full-time PhD candidate from University of Hong Kong. Currently, she is an exchange student at BU. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Literature from Shandong University and Master’s degree in big data, culture and society from King’s College London.
Her research interests include sociology of knowledge, economic sociology and medical sociology. Her current research topic is beauty industry in Hong Kong and mainland China, with a focus on the medical risk and moral concern of non-surgical cosmetic procedures, and how everyday interactive patterns shape users’ understanding and beauty practices. This research project aims to illuminate the relationship between knowledge and action in medicalized beauty practices under the commercialized and everyday context.
