Saida Grundy has won the ASA SREM (Section on Racial and Ethnic Minorities) Oliver Cromwell Cox Article Award for her 2021 article, “Lifting the Veil on Campus Sexual Assault: Morehouse College, Hegemonic Masculinity, and Revealing Racialized Rape Culture through the Du Boisian Lens”, in Social Problems.
The award “recognizes research that critically addresses the issues relevant to the sociological study of race and ethnicity while advancing a solid scientific understanding of the topic and displaying a theoretically informed view, empirical orientation, and making an important theoretical, methodological, and empirical contribution to the field of race, racism, racial and ethnic relations studies.”
The 2024 award committee was impressed by Saida’s “rich examination of how colleges enable rape culture through a Du Boisian theoretical framework.” Congratulations!
