The NSF Smart Lighting Engineering Research Center is developing new technologies and applications to change the way society uses lighting.<\/p>\n<p>Engineered Smart Lighting Systems will optically sense the environment to provide energy efficient, comfortable illumination when and where it is needed. Beyond illumination, Smart Lighting Systems will simultaneously provide high-speed data access and scan for biological and biochemical hazards.<\/p>\n<h4>ERC Highlights:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/smartlighting\/privacy-preserving-smart-room-analytics\/\">Privacy-Preserving Smart-Room Analytics<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/smartlighting\/emerging-technologies-track-light\/\">Emerging Technologies Track: Light-Based Communications and Positioning<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/smartlighting\/mobility-and-activity-recognition-in-smart-rooms\/\">Mobility and Activity Recognition in Smart Rooms<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/smartlighting\/optimal_mems\/\">Optical MEMS for Dynamic Lighting<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/smartlighting\/research\/optical-mimo\/\">MIMO Optical Communication<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/smartlighting\/research\/reverse-polarity-o-ofdm-for-combining-dimming-and-data-modulation-in-visible-light-communications\/\">Reverse Polarity O-OFDM<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/smartlighting\/smart-spaces-to-enhance-heath-safety-and-energy-efficiency\/\">Smart Spaces &#8211; Applications of Smart Lighting Technology<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/lesa.rpi.edu\">NSF Smart Lighting Engineering Research Center (ERC) <\/a> was founded in 2008 by the NSF as one of the first Generation 3 ERCs, where the role of industry is even more important than in Generation 2. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rpi.edu\/\">Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute<\/a> is the lead institution, and core partners are Boston University and The University of New Mexico.
