The Smart Lighting Engineering Research Center will develop new technologies and applications to change the way society uses lighting.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Monday, December 3, 2012<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"\/\/www.bu.edu\/smartlighting\/program-3rd-ieee-workshop-on-optical-wireless-communications-owc12\/\">3rd IEEE Workshop on Optical Wireless Communications (OWC\u201912)<\/a><br \/>\nThis workshop brought together researchers and practitioners from academia and industry working in emerging visible light communications (VLC) and ultraviolet communications (UVC) as well as the traditional wireless infrared communications (IRC) to present, share and discuss their latest research results.<\/p>\n<p><strong>February 13-14, 2012<br \/>\n<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/smartlighting\/smart-spaces-smart-lighting-erc-industry-academia-days-2012\/\" target=\"_blank\">Smart Spaces ERC Industry-Academia Days, RPI, Troy NY<\/a><br \/>\nImagine a world where efficient, digital lighting makes us healthier and more productive, produces significant energy savings, and even provides wireless, optical access to the internet. The Smart Lighting Engineering Research Center will develop new technologies and applications to change the way society uses lighting.<\/p>\n<p><strong>October 1, 2011<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/people.bu.edu\/mrahaim\/NEWSDR\/\" target=\"_blank\">Software Defined Radio Workshop<\/a><br \/>\nAt this inaugural event, we had multiple guest lecturers discuss a wide range of SDR topics and we offered a hands-on breakout session with the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/gnuradio.org\/redmine\/projects\/gnuradio\" target=\"_blank\">GNU Radio project<\/a> and SDR hardware (USRP2). With nearly 40 attendees from industry and academia, the event was a great way to learn about new work in the area of SDR and offered an excellent networking opportunity to meet other individuals working on SDR projects in and around the Boston area!<\/p>\n<p><strong>April 9, 2011<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/smartlighting\/smart-lighting-challenge-2011\/\">BU Energy Club &#8211; Smart Lighting Challenge<\/a><br \/>\nThis student run competition is focused on developing the optimal design, manufacturing, operations and product strategy for solid state lighting technologies under development at the National Science Foundation (NSF) Smart Lighting Engineering Research Center (ERC).\u00a0 Teams, made up with both graduate and undergraduates, compete by devising approaches to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/smartlighting\/files\/2011\/03\/Smart-Lighting-Challenge.pdf\">Smart Lighting case<\/a>. The case is authored by Professor Tom Little who leads the BU portion of the National Science Foundation Smart Lighting Engineering Research Center.<\/p>\n<p><strong>February 7-8, 2011<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/smartlighting\/industry\/smart-lighting-conference_2011\/\"> <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/smartlighting\/industry\/smart-lighting-conference_2011\/\">Smart Spaces: A Smart Lighting Industry\/Academia day<\/a><br \/>\nAs we move toward a 24\/7 society, humans are spending more of their time in constructed, illuminated, and connected environments.
