{"id":563,"date":"2012-11-29T12:23:42","date_gmt":"2012-11-29T17:23:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/slone\/?page_id=563"},"modified":"2013-11-27T13:29:51","modified_gmt":"2013-11-27T18:29:51","slug":"genetic-admixture-fibroids","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/slone\/research\/studies\/genetic-admixture-fibroids\/","title":{"rendered":"Genetic Admixture Study of Uterine Fibroids"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Uterine fibroids are the primary indication for hysterectomy  in the US   and their incidence is 2-3 times higher in black women than white  women.\u00a0 None of the environmental risk factors  identified in previous  studies explains the difference in rates.\u00a0 We will compare genes of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/slone\/research\/studies\/bwhs\/\">Black Women&#8217;s  Health Study (BWHS)<\/a> participants with and without fibroids in an attempt to  identify genes  potentially involved in the etiology of fibroids. A total of  2500  cases (fibroids) and 2500 controls (without fibroids) will be studied.  Differences  will also be examined according to age at onset and disease  severity.
