We strongly recommend\u00a0running replicate analyses (if sample size permits) to obtain accurate CO<sub>2\u00a0<\/sub>production levels.\u00a0Higher pricing also reflects the difficulty of small\u00a0sample water analysis.<\/p>\n<p><sup>2<\/sup> Other fluids (e.g. plant or\u00a0soil water) using enriched isotopes. A single sample is analyzed\u00a0and a replicate is run for every 10 samples.<\/p>\n<p><sup>3<\/sup> Any fluid or water samples\u00a0analyzed for <sup>18<\/sup>O or deuterium at natural abundance\u00a0levels. A single sample is analyzed and a replicate is run for\u00a0every 10 samples.<\/p>\n<p><sup>4<\/sup> These include samples run using the GV Instruments\u00a0IsoPrime IRMS and Eurovector elemental analyzer. All plant and animal tissue\u00a0should be well ground and dry (in most cases a 60\u00baC drying oven is adequate\u00a0for drying). Use a mortar and pestle for animal samples and a Wiley Mill with a 40-mesh screen or better for plant samples. A mortar and pestle with liquid nitrogen is also effective for plant tissue.<\/p>\n<p><sup>5<\/sup> Samples requiring special\u00a0handling and manual analysis may include filters, soil samples\u00a0low in carbon or nitrogen, samples that need acidification to\u00a0remove carbonates, etc.<\/p>\n<p><sup>6<\/sup> Customer prepared samples\u00a0will be invoiced for the total number of boats shipped. Sample\u00a0replicates or standards packed by the customer are treated as\u00a0regular samples. For example, if a sample tray contains 96\u00a0samples, it is treated as 96 samples, regardless if there are two\u00a0or twenty replicates.<\/p>\n<p><sup>7<\/sup> DIC water samples should be\u00a0collected to overflowing in glass bottles, then preserved with\u00a0ca. 1 ml of 1% HgCl<sub>2<\/sub>. Store at room temperature.<\/p>\n<p><sup>8<\/sup> There should be a minimum of 1\u00b5mole\/liter\u00a0N for both nitrate and ammonia in the solution.
