{"id":311,"date":"2024-12-05T11:48:32","date_gmt":"2024-12-05T16:48:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/shs\/?page_id=311"},"modified":"2026-08-24T10:14:58","modified_gmt":"2026-08-24T14:14:58","slug":"student-health-ambassadors","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/shs\/about-us\/get-involved\/student-health-ambassadors\/","title":{"rendered":"Student Health Ambassadors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Student Health Ambassadors (SHAs) are undergraduate students trained by SHS staff and other professionals on mental health, substance use, sexual health, and issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion.<\/p>\n<p><b>SHA Responsibilities:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Weekly Meetings: Friday afternoons from 2pm-4pm\n<ul>\n<li>These meetings are where SHAs check in with their team, continue to gain knowledge on health and wellness topics, and plan and provide feedback on upcoming events and initiatives.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Support campus physical and mental health in specific teams:\n<ul>\n<li><em>The Outreach Team<\/em> supports and plans regular outreach, tabling, and social media\/digital content creation.<\/li>\n<li><em>The All Ears Team<\/em> conducts <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/shs\/mental-health\/peer-support\/all-ears\/\">Peer Listening sessions<\/a> and supports mental health events.<\/li>\n<li><em>The Sexual Health Team <\/em>supports the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/shs\/medical-care\/sexual-health\/condom-fairy\/\">Condom Fairy<\/a> program and sexual health events.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Ambassadors have opportunities to:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li>Conduct community outreach<\/li>\n<li>Be featured in campus-wide communications, such as <a href=\"http:\/\/instagram.com\/bustudenthealth\">social media<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Provide feedback and consultation on Student Health Services\u2019 initiatives<\/li>\n<li>Raise awareness about health and wellness resources<\/li>\n<li>Receive training and education in various wellness topics<\/li>\n<li>Gain skills in communication, teamwork, and program planning<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u201cRaising awareness of health information and self-advocacy among students is important to me, and as an Ambassador, I can do so.\u201c Gavin Drucis, \u201826<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><b>Want to learn more?<\/b><br \/>\nInterested in supporting BU health and safety and supporting your peers? Our selection process occurs during the spring semester. We look for students with a passion for community health, outreach, connection, collaboration, and supporting peers.<\/p>\n<p>Applicants must:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be in good judicial and academic standing with Boston University<\/li>\n<li>Availability during training sessions and on Friday afternoons for our weekly meeting\n<ul>\n<li>Weekly Friday meetings occur 2-4:30pm<\/li>\n<li><strong>There will be extended meeting times for training from 2-5pm on these dates:<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>September 4, 11, &amp; 18<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Ability to participate in a team building retreat on <strong>September 19th, 2026<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Ability to commit 4-6 hours weekly<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Typical Application Process<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Application Opens: Mid January<\/li>\n<li>Application deadline: Late February<\/li>\n<li>Notification of interview selection: Mid March<\/li>\n<li>Interviews begin: Late March<\/li>\n<li>Notification of decision: Late April<\/li>\n<li>Position commitment: September &#8211; May<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Questions?
