Peer listeners are Student Health Ambassadors (SHAs) employed by SHS and trained in confidentiality. This means that what you discuss in an All Ears meeting is not shared with anyone such as professors, coaches, or employers. Exceptions to confidentiality are made if there is an emergency or immediate threat of harm to yourself or others.

<h3 class="bu_collapsible" aria-expanded="false"tabindex="0" role="button">Is this the same as talking to a therapist?

No. You’ll be talking with a trained Student Health Ambassador (SHA) who listens for 30 minutes in a casual environment. The peer listener you talk with can provide recommendations and resources. This is not the same as seeing a mental health professional.

<h3 class="bu_collapsible" aria-expanded="false"tabindex="0" role="button">What if I need more than a listening ear, or need help urgently?

If you’re experiencing mental health symptoms that are interfering with your daily routine (e.g., changes in mood for 2 weeks or more, a recent loss, or trauma), we recommend making a counseling appointment.

There are also many people who can help in an emergency. You can reach SHS in an emergency 24/7/365 by calling (617) 353-3569.
