The Athletic Training Residency program for Certified Athletic Trainers aims to provide educational and work experiences that prove to be beneficial for career development.

Boston University’s Athletic Training Services has highly motivated individuals grounded in evidence-based practice in the position of Resident Athletic Trainer. The experience includes collaborative practice in an inter-professional environment with a varied patient population. The residency program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).

Responsibilities and duties of the appointment entail work hours per week not to exceed ACGME guidelines, including but not limited to: the delivery of athletic training services to patients that are members of varsity sports teams, club sports teams, local high school sports teams, and ROTC; providing education and clinical supervision to athletic training students in the CAATE-accredited professional athletic training program; assisting physicians in on-campus sports medicine clinics; other duties as assigned by Athletic Training Services; weekly clinical and office hours; academic and scholarship activities.

The residency is a minimum of 21 consecutive months and begins in July.

Admissions Standards

  • Graduation from CAATE-accredited professional athletic training program
  • Post-professional Master’s Degree in Athletic Training preferred
  • 2 years of athletic training experience
  • BOC Certification
  • Commonwealth of Massachusetts license eligible
  • Current CPR certification
