The Center is named after the Reverend Doctor Anna Howard Shaw, a Methodist minister<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-498\" alt=\"picture81\" src=\"\/shaw\/files\/2009\/09\/picture81.jpg\" height=\"262\" width=\"197\" \/>, medical doctor, and suffragist. Ten years after its founding in 1978, the Shaw Center was designated as the women\u2019s center for the Northeastern Jurisdiction of the United Methodist Church.<\/p>\n<p>Ecumenical in its activities, the Center\u2019s primary goals are in the four following areas:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Research<\/strong> \u2013 to facilitate and initiate research on the historical roles of women in the church and on women\u2019s past and present contributions to religious\/theological studies and to the Christian ministry. Recently completed research:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/shaw\/publications\/united-methodist-clergywomen-retention-study-ii-2\/\">United Methodist Clergywomen Retention Study II in the U.S. Context<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Education<\/strong> \u2013 to provide educational opportunities on issues and practices relating to women in ministry, mission, and religious\/theological studies.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Support<\/strong> \u2013 to support and encourage both women and men striving for equality of opportunity in ministry, mission, and religious\/theological studies.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Advocacy<\/strong> \u2013 to advocate for full inclusion of women in ministry, mission, and religious studies based on ethical and theological principles as they interact with analyses of personal collective experiences.<\/p>\n<p>Our most recent edition of our newsletter is now available online!
