{"id":993,"date":"2025-02-24T11:49:26","date_gmt":"2025-02-24T16:49:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/seo\/?page_id=993"},"modified":"2026-07-07T11:19:17","modified_gmt":"2026-07-07T15:19:17","slug":"eligibility","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/seo\/resources\/eligibility\/","title":{"rendered":"Student Employment Eligibility Criteria"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BU students are eligible to work on-campus and have access to the job board if they meet the following criteria:<\/p>\n<table width=\"100%\" border=\"1\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"50%\"><strong>U.S. Citizens and Eligible\u00a0Non-Citizens<\/strong><\/td>\n<td width=\"50%\"><strong>International Students<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"55%\">Enrolled full- or part-time in a degree-seeking graduate or undergraduate program*<\/td>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li>Registered full-time (or certified as full-time by your school or college) in a degree-seeking graduate or undergraduate program for each semester, unless it is your last semester<\/li>\n<li>Confirmed <a href=\"\/seo\/international\/work-auth\/\">work authorization from the International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO)<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Completed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/isso\/getting-started\/checking-in-with-isso\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Initial ISSO check-in<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td colspan=\"2\" width=\"100%\">Before accessing the job board listings through the MyBU Student Portal, first-year and incoming students, must:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Satisfy the above requirements<\/li>\n<li>Pay their tuition<\/li>\n<li>Register for classes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If these requirements are met and access is not granted, please <a href=\"\/seo\/contact-us\/\">contact our office<\/a>. The submission form will require the student&#8217;s BUID\u2014the unique U and eight-digit number, assigned during application and confirmation. Until a student has been granted access, they will receive an error message when attempting to access the service.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p class=\"alert\"><strong>Status as a student employee ends immediately upon graduation or withdrawal from the University.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A student should be active only as student employee. No student should be active in a staff, temp, or casual position simultaneously.<\/p>\n<p>*If your certificate or course path leads to a degree-seeking program, please\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/seo\/about\/contact-us\/\">contact us<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h5 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Summer Jobs<\/h5><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p>Current, degree-seeking students are eligible to work on campus during the summer if they meet the following criteria:<\/p>\n<table width=\"100%\" border=\"1\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"50%\"><strong>U.S. Citizens and Eligible\u00a0Non-Citizens<\/strong><\/td>\n<td width=\"50%\"><strong>International Students<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Enrolled for the upcoming fall semester and\/or enrolled in summer classes*<\/td>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li>Enrolled for the upcoming fall semester and\/or enrolled in summer courses<\/li>\n<li>International students may only work part time if it is not their first or last summer enrolled at Boston University; consult with\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/isso\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ISSO<\/a> for more information<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>*If a student is not eligible to register for the upcoming fall semester (e.g., fall graduation date), the student needs to be enrolled for summer.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Student registered in Summer 1 only with no future registration may work only during Summer 1 term.<\/li>\n<li>Students registered in both Summer 1 and Summer 2 or only in Summer 2 with no future registration may work for the entire summer.<\/li>\n<li>Students working on an incomplete to finish a graduation requirement are not considered enrolled and cannot be paid as student employees.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h5 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">After Graduation<\/h5><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019ve <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/seo\/post-graduation\/\">graduated<\/a>, you are no longer eligible to work on campus as a student employee.
