However, a job that isn\u2019t related to your field of study can still provide valuable experience and a better understanding of workplace dynamics.\u00a0Overall, most departments at Boston University hire Work-Study students. Available job categories include:<\/p>\n<table width=\"100%\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"50%\">\n<ul>\n<li>Arts<\/li>\n<li>Athletics\/Recreation<\/li>\n<li>Communications<\/li>\n<li>Community Service<\/li>\n<li>Computer<\/li>\n<li>Dining Services<\/li>\n<li>Financial<\/li>\n<li>General Office<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<td width=\"50%\">\n<ul>\n<li>Laboratory\/Technical<\/li>\n<li>Human Service\/Medical<\/li>\n<li>Legal<\/li>\n<li>Library<\/li>\n<li>Research\/Teaching<\/li>\n<li>Security\/Maintenance<\/li>\n<li>Tutoring<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>The Federal Work-Study Program encourages students to participate in community service. These opportunities include (but are not limited to) health care, childcare, literacy programs, public recreational development, neighborhood improvement, and support services to the disabled and elderly. Contact listed employers to learn more about posted positions and set up interviews. Be sure to introduce yourself as a Work-Study student, and write e-mails with the same formality you would use for a business letter. If you have more than one Work-Study job you should:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Notify your supervisors that you have another Work-Study job.<\/li>\n<li>Agree upon what portion of your award (dollar amount) will be earned in each job. If the positions have different hourly rates, this will affect the hours you work for one job over another.<\/li>\n<li>Agree upon the number of hours\u00a0that you will work each week.\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Students cannot exceed a total of 20 hours per week while classes are in session but<\/strong>\u00a0can work more than 20 hours per week during official University breaks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Carefully monitor your award balance using the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pgw.buw.bu.edu\/sap\/bc\/ui5_ui5\/ui2\/ushell\/shells\/abap\/FioriLaunchpad.html\">Fiori Application<\/a>, to ensure that you do not work beyond your award amount.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Depending on your previous work experience and how much effort you invest in your search, you may be able to find a job related to your academic and career goals.
