Here\u2019s the information you need to know to take full advantage of this program.<\/p>\n<p>Federal Work-Study\u2014a\u00a0federally funded financial aid program administered by Boston University\u2014is designed to help you earn money for educational expenses. Unlike traditional grants, Federal Work-Study <strong>earnings are not applied to tuition<\/strong>. Here\u2019s how it works:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>You\u2019re personally paid for hours worked in an eligible Work-Study position.<\/li>\n<li>You can use your earnings to cover costs like tuition and fees, room and board, books, supplies, and necessary travel expenses. (You may also want to save part of your earnings to apply to the next semester\u2019s expenses.)<\/li>\n<li>The pay from a Work-Study position is your responsibility once earned, with no obligation to the Federal government or the University.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p class=\"alert\"><strong>Recipients of Work-Study awards have access to additional part-time job opportunities while attending Boston University.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h5 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Maintaining Your Work-Study Award<\/h5><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p>Boston University Financial Assistance selects as many participants for the Work-Study Program as funding allows for the academic year program, while students\u00a0<a href=\"\/seo\/work-study\/summer-fws\/\">apply directly for the summer program<\/a>. Eligibility for both programs is based on financial need. Learn more about\u00a0<a href=\"\/seo\/work-study\/reapplying\/\">reapplying for Work-Study.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"alert\"><strong>If your eligibility changes during the academic year or summer program, BU Financial Assistance may be required to adjust or cancel your Work-Study award. Therefore, it is important to monitor your award balance, which you can view through <a href=\"https:\/\/pgw.buw.bu.edu\/sap\/bc\/ui5_ui5\/ui2\/ushell\/shells\/abap\/FioriLaunchpad.html\">MyBU Works<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When accepting your financial aid package, you may decline your Work-Study award online if you are not interested in obtaining a Work-Study position. Otherwise, notify\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/finaid\/contact-us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Financial Assistance<\/a>\u00a0as soon as possible.<\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h5 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Payment for Work-Study<\/h5><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p>Undergraduate students are paid on an hours-worked basis. Graduate students may be paid on either an hours-worked\u00a0<strong>or<\/strong>\u00a0a weekly-salaried basis, depending on the job.<\/p>\n<p>Your earnings will depend on your work schedule and your hourly pay rate or weekly salary and are paid only for hours worked. Holidays, snow days, sick days, lunch, and break periods are\u00a0<strong>unpaid<\/strong>. Rates are set according to the complexity and responsibilities of the job and the skills and experience required. <a href=\"\/seo\/getting-paid\/\">Learn more about getting paid<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You are able to submit an\u00a0<a href=\"seo\/work-study\/appealing-for-additional-funding\/\">Appeal for Additional Funding<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0<strong>if you\u2019re actively working in a Work-Study position and will run out of funding before the program end date<\/strong>. Keep in mind that we cannot verify your eligibility for an increase before you start working in a Work-Study position.<\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<p><!--[collapsible heading=\"Summer Work-Study Program\" elem=\"h5\"]\n\nThe\u00a0<a href=\"\/seo\/work-study\/summer-fws\/\">Summer Work-Study program<\/a>\u00a0is a separate application, funding, and financial aid consideration from the Academic year Work-Study program. Please note that this application is for\u00a0<strong>undergraduate students only<\/strong>. Graduate students should\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/grad\/admission-funding\/financing-your-education\/graduate-financial-aid-offices\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">contact their school or college\u2019s financial aid offices<\/a>\u00a0for Summer Work-Study awarding.\n\nWe understand that it may be difficult to plan ahead for the summer; if you need to make any updates to your application,\u00a0<a href=\"seo\/contact-us\">let us know<\/a>.\n\nIf you\u2019re a law student, find out more about the <a href=\"seo\/work-study\/summer-fws\/summer-work-study-for-law-students\/\">Law School Summer Work Study Program.<\/a>\n\n<strong>Timelines to consider\u00a0<\/strong>\n\n\n<ul>\n \t\n\n<li>Student Employment will begin accepting applications in March.<\/li>\n\n\n \t\n\n<li>The Summer Work Study Program begins after Spring graduation in May and concludes in August. Please refer to the\u00a0<a href=\"\/seo\/work-study\/summer-fws\/\">Summer Work-Study program<\/a>\u00a0webpage for specific dates.<\/li>\n\n\n \t\n\n<li>The deadline to find a summer Work-Study placement will be in mid-June.<\/li>\n\n\n<\/ul>\n\n\nPlease note that University housing<strong>\u00a0is not<\/strong>\u00a0typically included with employment.
