He is a core faculty member of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/bioinformatics\/\">Bioinformatics Program<\/a> and of the <a href=\"https:\/\/bdc.bu.edu\/\">Biological Design Center<\/a>, and the founding Director of the <a href=\"http:\/\/microbu.org\">Boston University Microbiome Initiative<\/a>. After a <em>Laurea<\/em> (B.Sc-M.Sc.) in Physics from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.units.it\/en\">University of Trieste, Italy<\/a>, with a thesis on the theory of elementary particles, Dr. Segr\u00e8 obtained a Ph.D. in Life Sciences at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weizmann.ac.il\/\">Weizmann Institute of Science<\/a>, Israel, studying prebiotic chemical networks and the origin of life.
