Boston University Provost Jean Morrison has announced that Catherine O’Connor, Professor of Language Education with the BU School of Education, will serve as Dean ad interim of the School of Education beginning July 1.
In her announcement, Provost Morrison noted that Dr. O’Connor has previously served the School as Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs, and stated that Dr. O’Connor is “enthusiastically committed to the School’s continued trajectory of excellence.”
Dean Coleman offered praise and gratitude toward Dr. O’Connor in a separate statement, writing, “We know that Cathy’s leadership has been central to the development of our collaborative leadership model … and we know that she will be dedicated to helping us grow as a school and community.”
Dr. O’Connor’s research and interests are in linguistics and applied linguistics, with a particular focus on math and science classroom discourse. In addition to teaching in the Literacy and Language programs in SED, Dr. O’Connor also teaches in the Program in Applied Linguistics in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. She first joined the School of Education in 1989.
