This is a wonderful resolution, especially if it is created as an <a href=\"..\/2011\/01\/07\/new-years-resolutions\/\">achievable goal<\/a> . Here at BU we have the fabulous <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/fitrec\/\">FitRec<\/a> with a great variety of options for everyone! The secret to staying motivated to exercise is finding something you love, and sticking to it. Some people love pumping iron at the gym. Others adore cycling outside. Don\u2019t let the excuse \u201cI don\u2019t like working out\u201d get in the way of your goal! The first step to achieving your fitness goals is finding a type of exercise that you absolutely love to do.\u00a0 When you first start your program don&#8217;t force yourself to do anything too hard or unpleasant.\u00a0 Follow these top tips to get start and stick with a new exercise routine! <strong> <\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Consistency is key<\/strong> Make a plan and stick to it. The nice thing about goals is that they can always be changed if you find that following the goals isn\u2019t working out exactly as planned.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Start Small.<\/strong> If you haven\u2019t exercised in months it might make sense to start off with a goal of doing physical activity once or twice a week. Start with just jogging around the block, alternating run\/walk, maybe even sign up for your first <a href=\"http:\/\/www.coolrunning.com\/engine\/1\/1_1\/index.shtml\">5K<\/a> with a few friends! Small steps lead to big changes!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Make it fun! <\/strong>Try a new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/fitrec\/programs\/classes.shtml\">fitness class<\/a>! There\u2019s no better day than today to try rock climbing, spinning or zumba!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bring a friend.<\/strong> Having a workout partner is one of the most effective ways to be accountable and make your workout fun and more motivating.<\/p>\n<p><strong>See yourself fit.<\/strong> You\u2019ll be more motivated to move if working out is part of your self-image, says a study in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ijbnpa.org\/content\/7\/1\/7\"><em>The International Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity<\/em>.<\/a> Share your activities, goals, and endeavors with your friends and support system.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reward yourself.<\/strong> Doing something consistently is an accomplishment!
