Major requirements: BA in Science Education
Students pursuing the Bachelors of Arts (BA) in Science Education degree must complete the specific requirements of their specialization (biology, chemistry, or physics; 48 credits) and a core of education courses in Wheelock (28 credits). All of these required courses must be completed with a minimum grade of C. Additionally, students must also complete all of the BU Hub requirements and the CAS second language requirement.
Education core requirements
Students majoring in Science Education complete a total of 28 credits through the BU Wheelock College of Education and Human Development, including Student-Teaching pre-practicum and practicum. The required courses are:

SED CT 534: A Practical Approach to Classroom Management (2 credits)

SED DS 502: Introduction to Adolescent Development (2 credits)

SED SC 575: Introduction to Science Education (4 credits)

SED SE 510: Special Education (or SED SE 251) (2 credits)

SED TL 525: Teaching English Language Learners in Middle/High Schools (4 credits)

SED SC 570: Science Teaching Methods I (4 credits)

SED SC 576: Science Teaching Pre-Practicum (2 credits)

SED SC 510: Student-Teaching Practicum: Science, 8-12 (or SED SC 509) (8 credits)
*Students who participate in the Learning Assistant program replace SED SC 575 with: SED ED 530: Fieldwork in education (2 credits) and SED SC 521: Introduction to STEM Education Theory and Practice (2 credits).
Specializations in Biology, Chemistry, or Physics
Every Science Education major must choose at least one specialization to complete: biology, chemistry, or physics. Each specialization has a set of required foundation courses, principal depth courses, and breadth (elective) requirements.
