{"id":66617,"date":"2021-02-23T18:41:43","date_gmt":"2021-02-23T23:41:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sargent\/?p=66617"},"modified":"2021-02-23T18:59:01","modified_gmt":"2021-02-23T23:59:01","slug":"phd-candidate-named-top-40-under-40","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sargent\/phd-candidate-named-top-40-under-40\/","title":{"rendered":"PhD Candidate Named Top 40 Under 40"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/sargent\/files\/2021\/02\/jesse-636x624.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-66619\" width=\"408\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sargent\/files\/2021\/02\/jesse-636x624.jpg 636w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sargent\/files\/2021\/02\/jesse-768x754.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sargent\/files\/2021\/02\/jesse.jpg 850w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 408px) 100vw, 408px\" \/>Jesse Moreira, a Human Physiology PhD candidate, has been named one of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salemstate.edu\/alumni-and-friends\/stay-connected\/awards-and-scholarships\/40-under-40\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">40 top alums<\/a> under the age of 40 by his undergraduate alma mater, Salem State University.<\/p>\n<p>This distinction recognizes &#8220;remarkable individuals whose achievements positively contribute to the Salem State difference, either in their professions or communities.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Moreira&#8217;s research interests include cardiovascular disease and hypertension, and his <span class=\"Linkify\">dissertation focuses on the central neural and inflammatory processes occurring in the hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus driving salt sensitive hypertension in rat models.<\/span> He is currently a researcher in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/busm-wci\/labs\/wainford-lab\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wainford Lab<\/a>, part of the Whitaker Cardiovascular Institute at Boston Medical School.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, he has been recognized by the American Heart Association and the Physiological Society for his work in hypertension and experimental physiology research.
