The Sargent Service Learning Program<\/a> offers Sargent students a unique opportunity to participate in faculty led, interdisciplinary, service learning experiences.<\/p>\n

Mesoamerica is the homeland of many of the world\u2019s \u201csuperfoods\u201d including chia, flax and cacao. It is the native home of many of the modern world\u2019s staple foods such as corn, squash, tomatoes and beans, yet Guatemalans have some of the highest malnutrition rates in the world.<\/p>\n

Through the lens of food systems and production, we will engage in a dialogue that studies the social, environmental, public health and economic issues within this small but resilient Central American country. We will team-up with local doctors, nurses, food advocacy and indigenous rights groups for hands on experience in the community.<\/p>\n

Spring Break: Friday, March 8 – Sunday, March 17, 2019<\/p>\n

Accommodations<\/h3>\n

Students will stay in hostels\/community centers, under faculty supervision.<\/p>\n

Program Costs<\/h3>\n

Cost of $1,295.00 includes transportation, meals, lodging, excursions. Flight is not included (flights for these dates currently range from $430-$750).<\/p>\n
