The status of Fellow is retained for life and is one of the highest honors ASHA can bestow.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">This honor recognizes professional or scientific achievement and is given to an ASHA member who has made outstanding contributions to the\u00a0field of communication sciences and disorders.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment45589\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment45589\" style=\"width: 686px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/sargent\/files\/2016\/09\/16-9607-STEPP-087-636x423.jpg\" alt=\"Cara Steep\" class=\"wp-image-45589\" width=\"676\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sargent\/files\/2016\/09\/16-9607-STEPP-087-636x423.jpg 636w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sargent\/files\/2016\/09\/16-9607-STEPP-087-768x511.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sargent\/files\/2016\/09\/16-9607-STEPP-087-1024x681.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 676px) 100vw, 676px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment45589\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cara Stepp, associate professor of speech, language &amp; hearing sciences<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p align=\"left\">Director of BU&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/stepplab\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sensorimotor Rehabilitation Engineering Lab,<\/a> Stepp earned a PhD in biomedical engineering from the Harvard-MIT Program in Health Sciences and Technology, a master of science in electrical engineering and computer science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a bachelor&#8217;s in engineering science from Smith College.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Stepp&#8217;s research focuses on the<span> assessment and treatment of sensorimotor disorders of voice and speech, applying techniques from electrical engineering, computer science, rehabilitation engineering, neuroscience, laryngology, speech science, and communication disorders.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">She will be formally recognized at the 2018 ASHA Convention in Boston, Mass. this November.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cara Stepp, associate professor of speech, language &amp; hearing sciences,\u00a0has been named a Fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
