The talk will be titled, &#8220;Music-Driven Neuroplasticity: Impacts on Speech Processing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">Monday, September 30<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">5:00 pm\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> <\/span><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> <\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> <\/span><\/h3>\n<div>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">Sargent College, Room 102<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">Reception to follow (21+)<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>As mounting evidence suggests that musical training enhances the brain&#8217;s processing of speech sounds, Dr. Aniruddh Patel will review the evidence for such effects, and offer a theoretical framework for understanding how and why they occur.\u00a0Experimental research motivated by this framework will also be presented, as well as specific suggestions for the development of animal models.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Aniruddh (Ani) Patel is Associate Professor of Psychology at Tufts University. His work focuses on music cognition: the mental processes involved in making, perceiving, and responding to music.
