Audiologists work on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, counseling, and follow-up services for hearing and balance disorders<\/li>\n<li>provision of technology and strategies for improving communication including hearing aids, cochlear implants, and other assistive listening devices<\/li>\n<li>education for individuals, families, co-workers, and educators about accepting and adapting to hearing loss<\/li>\n<li>consultation about the prevention of noise-induced hearing loss and optimizing listening environments for communication<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Where do speech-pathologists and audiologists work?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>public schools<\/li>\n<li>hospitals<\/li>\n<li>nursing homes<\/li>\n<li>early intervention programs<\/li>\n<li>universities<\/li>\n<li>patient homes<\/li>\n<li>private practice<\/li>\n<li>rehabilitation centers<\/li>\n<li>special-needs schools<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What will I like (or dislike) about this work?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>satisfaction from helping others<\/li>\n<li>clients of all ages<\/li>\n<li>working with a team of professionals<\/li>\n<li>option of full- or part-time work<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>How is the job outlook?<\/h2>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bls.gov\/ooh\/Healthcare\/Speech-language-pathologists.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics <em>Occupational Outlook Handbook<\/em><\/a> (2016-2017)<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bls.gov\/ooh\/Healthcare\/Speech-language-pathologists.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><\/a>: \u201cEmployment of speech-language pathologists is projected to grow 18 percent from 2016 to 2026, much faster than the average for all occupations. As the large baby-boom population grows older, there will be more instances of health conditions such as strokes or dementia, which can cause speech or language impairments.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bls.gov\/ooh\/Healthcare\/Audiologists.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">audiologists<\/a>, &#8220;E<span>mployment of audiologists is projected to grow 21 percent from 2016 to 2026, much faster than the average for all occupations.
