{"id":719,"date":"2009-09-21T10:04:40","date_gmt":"2009-09-21T14:04:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sargent\/?page_id=719"},"modified":"2019-08-20T12:26:12","modified_gmt":"2019-08-20T16:26:12","slug":"declaring-your-major","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sargent\/admissions\/undergraduate\/undeclared-program\/declaring-your-major\/","title":{"rendered":"Declaring Your Major"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You can declare a major after you&#8217;ve completed a full semester at Boston University.<br \/>\nOnce you decide on a major, here are the steps you&#8217;ll need to take:<\/p>\n<h2>First-Year Students<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>You&#8217;ll meet with the Undeclared Program Academic Counselor, to discuss the requirements of your target program.<\/li>\n<li>If you haven&#8217;t met the transfer requirements, such as a required GPA, etc., you can still take first-year spring courses in your chosen major so you won&#8217;t fall behind in the curriculum requirements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Sophomores<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>You may remain undeclared until all summer courses are completed before the beginning of your junior year.<\/li>\n<li>You cannot transfer into the Undeclared program, so it&#8217;s best to remain Undeclared until you&#8217;re reasonably sure of your academic plan.<\/li>\n<li>When you&#8217;re ready, meet with an Academic Counselor to fill out a Program Change Form. She will forward your records to the department and tell you how to make an appointment with your new advisor.
