T<span>he Hub helps<\/span> students explore a variety of courses and innovative learning experiences \u2014 creating their own personal educational pathway. Specifically, the Hub helps students develop six essential capacities to thrive in their personal, professional, and civic lives:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Philosophical, Aesthetic, and Historical Interpretation<\/li>\n<li>Scientific and Social Inquiry<\/li>\n<li>Quantitative Reasoning<\/li>\n<li>Diversity, Civic Engagement, and Global Citizenship;<\/li>\n<li>Communication<\/li>\n<li>Intellectual Toolkit<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Why the BU Hub?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>BU has always had general education requirements that spanned math, science, writing, humanities, and social sciences. The BU Hub standardizes these across campus and strengthens their goals.<\/li>\n<li>With a combination of intensified existing courses and new offerings, students increase their opportunity to develop knowledge, skills, and habits of mind\u00a0 to be lifelong learners and leaders in a rapidly evolving, interconnected, globalized world.<\/li>\n<li>Many of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/hub\/files\/2023\/12\/PROV_23_BUHub_WhyBUHub_1Sheet_Final-Morgan-Danna.pdf\">Hub requirements<\/a> are built directly into degree requirements; the rest will be earned through elective courses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Hub Resources<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Your degree advice report tracks your <a href=\"\/sargent\/files\/2026\/07\/HubMapRevised2026.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hub requirements.<\/a><\/li>\n<li>While many of your major\u2019s requirements fulfill <a href=\"\/sargent\/files\/2026\/07\/HubMapRevised2026.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hub requirements<\/a>, you can select among a range of integrative and innovative options to complete your degree.<\/li>\n<li>Each semester, you will discuss your academic and professional goals with your advisor prior to registering for classes.
