RDNs apply the science of food and nutrition across diverse settings to promote health, prevent disease, and support the management of nutrition-related conditions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>There are several <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eatright.org\/become-an-rdn\">pathways available to become an RDN<\/a>.<span>\u00a0All pathways begin with foundational knowledge requirements established by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (<a href=\"#acend\">ACEND<\/a>). At least 80% of part-time students complete program requirements within 4.5 years (150% of planned part-time program length).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>At least 40% percent of program graduates apply for admission to a supervised practice program prior to or within 12 months of graduation. <\/span><span>\u200b<\/span><span><\/span><\/li>\n<li>Of program graduates who apply to a supervised practice program, at least 50% percent are admitted within 12 months of graduation.<\/li>\n<li><span>Of program graduates who apply to a graduate program, at least 20% percent are admitted within 12 months of graduation. <\/span><span>\u200b<\/span><span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span> <\/span><span>Of program graduates who apply for a food or health-related position, at least 20% percent will begin employment within 12 months of graduation.<\/span><span>\u200b<\/span><span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span><strong>Goal 2<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>BU DPD graduates will be competent dietetic interns, graduate students, or entry-level food or health-related professionals.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Objectives <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong> <\/strong><span>The program\u2019s one-year pass rate (graduates who pass the registration exam within one year of first attempt) on the CDR credentialing exam for dietitian nutritionists is at least 80%. <\/span><span>\u200b<\/span><span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong> <\/strong>At least 80% of graduates entering supervised practice programs upon completion of the BU DPD will receive a score of \u2018average\u2019 or above preparation on a survey of supervised practice directors sent one year after graduation (out of the total number of surveys received).<\/li>\n<li>\u2018At least 80% of graduates responding to a one-year graduation survey regarding adequacy of academic preparation for supervised practice, a graduate degree program, or employment in a food or health-related field will report \u2018average\u2019 or above preparation (out of the total number of surveys received.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2>Next Steps on Your Path to Become an RDN<\/h2>\n<h4>1. After earning your <strong>DPD Verification Statement<\/strong>:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Complete a master\u2019s degree<\/li>\n<li>Complete an ACEND-accredited supervised practice program (e.g., a dietetic internship)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sargent\/academics\/departments-programs\/health-sciences\/msdi\/\">Boston University\u2019s MS in Nutrition and Dietetic Internship programs<\/a> combine both the master\u2019s degree and supervised practice requirements into one seamless pathway.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Additional Pathway<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sargent\/academics\/departments-programs\/health-sciences\/ms-nutrition-2-semester\/\">MS in Nutrition<\/a> + <\/strong>Standalone ACEND-accredited DI<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Students may choose to complete a\u00a0<strong>master\u2019s degree first<\/strong>, then apply to a\u00a0<strong>standalone ACEND-accredited dietetic internship<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">BU\u2019s\u00a0<strong>two-semester MS in Nutrition<\/strong>\u00a0program offers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Core coursework in human nutrition science and metabolism<\/li>\n<li>Research experience to support evidence-based practice<\/li>\n<li>A customizable concentration based on student interests<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Note: This program does not include a dietetic internship. In addition, CDR requires that individuals complete coursework and supervised practice in program(s) accredited by ACEND.<\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" id=\"technology\" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h2 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Technology Requirements<\/h2><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p>Technology plays an integral role during the BS DPD program. <strong>Students are responsible for all expenses related to these technology requirements.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A laptop with camera and microphone are required.
