Simone Gill Joins AOTF State of the Science Symposium Panel
Associate Professor Simone Gill, OT, PhD, OTR, FAOTA, was invited to participate in this year’s AOTF State of the Science Symposium at the AOTA Inspire Conference in March. Focusing on cutting-edge research and development in the field of occupational therapy, this year’s symposium’s theme was “Progress in OT Assessment: How Are We Measuring Up?” Panelists were asked to offer their perspectives on the connections between measurement and research, including how our understanding of human occupation and health may be advanced through the development and use of a variety of assessment tools.
At the symposium, Gill shared her thoughts as an occupational therapy scholar, emphasizing the unique role that occupational therapists play in selecting assessment tools for use in research. In particular, she highlighted the distinct and valuable perspective that occupational therapy practitioners may contribute to research teams. Gill presented concrete strategies for addressing challenges to measurement in research, as well as for advocating for the inclusion of occupational therapists—and, thus, a focus on human occupation and health—in interdisciplinary research efforts.
