Professor Joan Salge Blake Receives Media Excellence Award

Joan Salge Blake, a Sargent College clinical professor of nutrition and dietetic internship director, received the 2020 Media Excellence Award from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND). This honor recognizes Salge Blake’s “important contribution and commitment to educating consumers about food and nutrition issues through the news media.”

Salge Blake, an often quoted source in the national media, has conducted more than 2,000 interviews on the topics of nutrition and health. She is the host of of the health & wellness podcast SpotOn! and the author of the popular college textbook Nutrition & You.

Recipients of the Media Excellence Award cover trending topics with “balance and perspective, are scientifically accurate, regularly cite Academy positions and materials and quote Academy members as experts, present nutrition information creatively and reach a wide audience.”

The award will be presented to Salge Blake at AND’s 2020 Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo.

Previously, Salge Blake was honored by AND with the Outstanding Dietetic Educator Award, and in 2009, she received the Annie Galbraith Outstanding Dietitian Award from the Massachusetts Dietetic Association. She is a two-time awardee of the Whitney Powers Excellence in Teaching Award from BU Sargent College.
