Karen Halfon (Sargent ’88) to Receive 2018 OT Alumni Award

Boston University Occupational Therapy faculty have selected Karen Halfon, OTR/L (Sargent ’88), as the 2018 recipient of the BU Sargent College Occupational Therapy Alumni Award. Halfon was honored in recognition of more than twenty years of advocacy for clinical education. Halfon graduated with a bachelor’s in Occupational Therapy and began her career at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital where she continues to work as an OT clinical specialist and student fieldwork coordinator for the Sargent OT department. With nearly 30 years in adult rehabilitation, Halfon’s experience includes supporting stroke survivors as they manage the challenges of parenthood, training them in childcare skills.

As an ”agent of change,” Halfon has developed and maintained a dynamic student program focused on keeping OT staff and students in touch with current practice. She is an incredible mentor to BU OT students, consistently going above and beyond to offer support and guidance and has been instrumental in developing students’ skills and resilience as they transition into the profession.

The award will be presented at the AOTA Annual Conference during the Boston University alumni and clinical associates reception, Friday April 20, 7:30-9:30 p.m. at the Hilton Salt Lake City Center (255 S W Temple, Salt Lake City).
