Aural Rehabilitation Services

Aural Rehabilitation Services

The Boston University Academic Speech, Language & Hearing Center provides aural rehabilitation evaluations and services for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals as part of the clinical training program for master’s students in the Department of Speech, Language & Hearing Sciences. These services include:

  • Individual adult evaluations and therapy
  • Auditory training
  • Communication strategies training
  • Speechreading training
  • Adult Group AR Program

Services are provided by graduate students and closely monitored by a Boston University faculty member who is a licensed speech pathologist or audiologist.

Evaluations

Clients receive a comprehensive evaluation that includes, as appropriate, assessment of speech production as well as auditory and speech reading skills. Clients also receive an extensive written report with detailed recommendations.

Treatment and Schedule

The Group AR program is open to adult individuals who use hearing aids and their communication partners, as well as individuals who do not currently use devices but would like to address their hearing difficulties. The group meets weekly in-person throughout the semester and is designed to help individuals improve their communication and listening skills, and learn strategies to manage communication more effectively in their lives.

For individual services, clients commit to weekly sessions throughout the academic semester, which runs 10-12 weeks.
