Welcome from Dean Chris Moore

SARMOORE
Welcome to Boston University College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences: Sargent College! As one of the country’s leading schools of health and rehabilitation sciences, Sargent combines outstanding faculty, challenging academic curricula, and state-of-the-art facilities to provide rigorous education and exemplary clinical experiences. Our interdisciplinary approach houses all of our clinical programs under one roof; this environment reflects the future of health care and promotes a deep appreciation for work across the professions.

Home to nearly 1,100 undergraduate and more than 700 graduate students, Sargent offers a close-knit, small-college environment in a large, diverse, research university. Professors are supportive and accessible, and have a genuine connection to their students. Sargent faculty include some of the nation’s most respected leaders in health and rehabilitation, including the president of the World Association of Psychosocial Rehabilitation, chair of the Psychiatric Rehabilitation Foundation, a member of the Auditory System Study Section for the National Institutes of Health Center for Scientific Review, a former AOTA president, and a winner of the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers – as well as leaders in aphasia and Parkinson’s disease research and clinical care.

And just outside our doors lies the exciting, intellectually stimulating city of Boston – a major center for medicine, higher education, research, and technology.

What makes Sargent such a unique and dynamic community? Here are just a few of our key strengths:

  • Research transforms practice / practice drives research: Backed by nearly $20 million in research funding, our students gain research experience in faculty labs, at Boston Medical Center and numerous Boston-area hospitals, and through their participation in our Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP).
  • Our graduate programs are among the nation’s best: Each of the Sargent programs tracked by U.S. News & World Report rank in the top 9 percent in their respective fields including Occupational Therapy, ranked #1 in the nation.
  • Clinical excellence: We have more than 1,200 clinical sites throughout the U.S.; Sargent students develop extraordinarily broad skills in a diverse range of real-world, interdisciplinary settings. These training experiences are enhanced by the leadership and deep involvement of Sargent students and faculty in interdisciplinary research at more than 30 clinical education centers, research labs, and research centers.
  • Interdisciplinary, team approach: Our team approach to treatment allows our students, researchers, and clinicians to collaborate across Sargent disciplines, as well as with faculty throughout BU.

I’m proud to support the important work of Sargent. Across the College, we are joined by our shared commitment to community, removing barriers of disability, and enhancing the participation of all people in our society. Our faculty and students are making a difference each day through their steadfast devotion to helping others. This core value motivates everything the Sargent College community does. I invite you to explore our site and learn more about the breadth and depth of opportunities that Sargent has to offer.
