Hello SAGE members,
Mark your calendars, for on Wednesday, November 5th, it will be time for our once-a-semester Trivia Night.
This is not your typical trivia outing. The questions, format, scoring, and teamwork involved are unique every time this event is held. Come prepared to experience, and maybe even enjoy, the diverse knowledge we will present in a fun, competitive format.
We will be hosting teams of eight people each. The winning team will receive FREE admission to the SAGE dinner cruise to be held during the spring semester.
There will be plenty of FREE FOOD, as well as a brief SAGE update, beginning at 6 pm. The event will be held in the Photonics Colloquium Room (906).
Hope to see you all there!
On Halloween, SAGE will be holding a costume contest at our regularly scheduled pub night!
There will be three categories judged:
- Best Individual Male (Prize: free SAGE event)
- Best Individual Female (Prize: free SAGE event)
- Best Group (Prize: free admission to spring dinner cruise)
Register, get your picture taken, and three judges will choose the winners.
- 5:30 – 7 pm: Enter Contest by signing up at the ticket table and getting your picture taken by the judges
- 7 – 7:15: The 3 judges view each entry (blinded of course, because we are all scientists), and individually give a 1 – 5 ranking. We total the scores and determine our winners.
- ~7:15 – Winners Announced
Bring your best look to pub night!
The assembly and International Night were a huge success! We had an attendance of 75 people—thank you all for attending! If you would like to find out where everything was ordered from, the menu is listed below:
- Beef kebabs, chicken kebabs, falafel, and baklava from Garlic ‘n Lemons
- Veggie papusas, bean papusas, veggie quesadillas, and steak quesadillas from Habanero
- Veggie and chicken samosas from Darbar
- Shrimp gyoza and sweet potato tempura from Gyu-Kaku
- Cold noodles, string beans, and Kung Pao chicken from Sichuan Gourmet
- Melanzane ripiene from Carlo’s Cucina
- Gulab jamun from Gourmet India
The SAGE board would like to invite everyone to a general assembly on Wednesday, October 8th, 6 pm in room PHO 901. At this event, we will formally introduce ourselves, as well as our planned events and new policies for this upcoming year (see Attachment 1 for more details).
Following the assembly, beginning at 7 pm, we will hold a reception in the Colloquium Room (PHO 906). For this, we are providing an assortment of international finger foods (see Attachment 2). This is a great opportunity to enjoy a diverse selection of cuisines and take a mid-week break to mingle with other SAGE members after class or work.
Because we are ordering a large amount of food from outside vendors, we will be partially subsidizing this event by selling tickets. Please consult Attachment 2 for more details.

SAGE will be having our first game night of the year this Wednesday, September 10 from 7–8pm in LSEB 103 (in 24 Cummington Mall). Join us for a few rounds of Taboo and make some new friends! Some light snacks will be provided.
All SAGE members are welcome to join us at the Lansdowne Pub on Thursday, September 11th starting 7:00 pm for free appetizers and drink tickets! This is a great way to meet new people and kick off the new year with food, drinks, and maybe even a little karaoke!
We will be in the private room behind the stage. There will be free appetizers and free drink tickets. Tickets are worth $7 and can be used for beer, mixed drinks, and soda (the difference of anything over $7 will have to be paid by you). Food will be available 7:30-8:30PM and drink tickets will be given away until they are gone.
The Lansdowne Pub is located at 9 Lansdowne St. (in Fenway). You are more than welcome to bring a guest, but drink tickets will only be given to SAGE members (bring your BU IDs). Please email us with any questions.
Look for Elizabeth Shenk or Meghan Thommes for drink tickets. We hope to see you all there!
There has been an overwhelming number of people who have submitted the form for Microsoft Access. Once it is verified that you are a graduate engineering student, you will be added to the server, at which time a confirmation email will be sent to you with instructions as to how to access it. This process will likely take several days so please be patient, and DO NOT submit another form for access. Thank you.
Please also direct any questions to us, rather than to the Graduate Programs Office.
The sign-ups for free Red Sox tickets during our orientation booth this year have been sorted. We drew randomly from the lists of first-year and senior students to fulfill a ~65:35 respective ratio of tickets requested, totaling ~100 tickets. We were able to fulfill everyone’s desired date, but not necessarily seat section. Please be on the lookout for emails next week with more details.
