Boston University Police Department

The BUPD website features a wealth of Safety on Campus resources, including information on an Active Shooter situation, BU Alert – the campus community notification system, the Boston University Annual Security Report, Campus Security Authorities information and Crime Statistics  (pursuant to the Clery Act), Emergency Call Boxes, Emergency Management emergency information, Pedestrian and Traffic Safety, and the Scarlet Safe Walk Program, as well as additional resources on the Department, the services they offer, and relevant contact information. Members of the University community and their families are encouraged to follow the department on Twitter and Facebook for updates.

Campus Sex Offender Reporting

Federal law requires states to ask every sex offender registered under “Megan’s Law” if they are or will be enrolled at or employed by a college or university. State governments will then provide that information to the school’s police department or a local police department with jurisdiction for the campus. Students and employees may obtain any information provided by any state under this law at the Boston University Police Department, 32 Harry Agganis Way, during business hours, or on the Boston University Police Department website. The Executive Office of Public Safety for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts provides a searchable database of Massachusetts-area level-2 and level-3 sex offenders.

Boston University Emergency Management

Boston University provides information about existing emergencies on its Emergency Management office and website.

    Environmental Health & Safety

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) mission is to provide a safe environment for students, faculty, staff, and others visiting our facilities. EHS maintains the University’s Fire Log, which is available for inspection at 704 Commonwealth Avenue, Second Floor. and also compiles the annual Fire Safety Report.

Open Police and Fire Log Laws

Massachusetts law requires all police agencies in the state to maintain open police logs, and federal law requires open logs be maintained by colleges and universities. The public has a right of access during business hours to summary information regarding reported incidents. The identification of victims of sexual assault, or attempted sexual assault, is prohibited by law.

The Boston University police and fire logs are available at the police station at 32 Harry Agganis Way. The Medical Campus Public Safety police and fire logs are available at 710 Albany Street.
