Research and Teaching<\/h2>\n

Odile Cazenave is Professor of French Studies in Romance Studies, African Studies, and the Center for the Study of Europe, and is an Associate Faculty of the Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University.<\/p>\n

Her research interests focus on the writing and reception of postcolonial literary and filmic narratives in French. Her publications include Femmes rebelles: naissance d\u2019un nouveau roman africain au f\u00e9minin<\/em> (L\u2019Harmattan, Paris 1996), Afrique sur Seine. Une nouvelle g\u00e9n\u00e9ration de romanciers africains \u00e0 Paris<\/em> (L\u2019Harmattan, 2003)\u2013both are available in translation (Rebellious Women<\/em> (Lynne Rienner, 1999), and Afrique sur Seine<\/em> A New Generation of African Writers in Paris<\/em>; (Lexington Books, 2005)), and Contemporary Francophone African Writers and the Burden of Commitment <\/em>(University of Virginia Press, 2011, co-written with Patricia Celerier, Vassar College).<\/em> She has edited and co-edited a number of special issues for different journals: Pr\u00e9sence Francophone<\/em> 58, \u2018Francophonies, Ecritures et Immigration;\u2019 with writer and philosopher, Tanella Boni, Cultures Sud<\/em>, 172 L\u2019engagement au f\u00e9minin; with Patricia C\u00e9l\u00e9rier,<\/em> Pr\u00e9sence Francophone<\/em> \u00abVingt ans apr\u00e8s le g\u00e9nocide des Tutsi du Rwanda\u00a0: regards sur la production artistique\u00bb, (PF 85, December 2015) and Nouvelles Etudes Francophones<\/em>, (NEF33.1, 2018) on African and Afro-diasporic documentaries.She has\u00a0<\/span>written on a large number of Francophone writers and a wide range of topics related to gender and sexuality, postmemory, the local and the global, art from trauma, filiation and transmission, the diaspora, as well as issues of displacement, migration, and citizenship in a global world. Her most recent publications include articles on Indian Ocean Literature, film, and globalization; on writers and filmmakers such as, Assia Djebar,\u00a0 Khady Sylla, Ananda Devi, Kivu Ruhorahoza, Fabienne and Veronique Kanor, V\u00e9ronique Tadjo, Boubacar Boris Diop, Alain Mabanckou, Raharimanana, Sami Tchak and Abdourahman Waberi.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She directed the Section African Literature for the\u00a0<\/span>Dictionnaire universel des cr\u00e9atrices<\/em>\u00a0<\/span>(Editions des Femmes, 2013) and has been contributing to the series Litt\u00e9rAfrique (at Hachette International) geared to junior high and high school students in Francophone African countries, especially with an Anthology of the short story in African literature. She is one of the Editors of\u00a0<\/span>JALA, the Journal of the African Literature Association.<\/em><\/p>\n

Odile Cazenave has held visiting appointments at Brown University, Harvard University, M.I.T., Wellesley College, and has taught in the Graduate Consortium in Women\u2019s Studies. She is a core faculty for the African Studies Center, the Center for the Study of Europe, and is part of World Languages and Literature, Middle Eastern and North African Studies, The Holocaust, Genocide and Human Rights Studies, and Cinema and Media Studies.<\/p>\n

In 2018, Odile Cazenave\u00a0<\/span>was named a Chevalier dans l\u2019Ordre des Palmes Acad\u00e9miques.<\/p>\n
