Originally from western Massachusetts, she began studying Spanish in high school and quickly developed a passion for exploring the world through language and culture<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>A<span data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">fter earning her B.A. in Spanish from Wellesley College, Alison joined Boston University in 2004 as a graduate student and instructor, later completing both an M.A. and Ph.D. in Hispanic Language and Literature. Since joining the faculty full-time in 2011, she has served in several leadership roles, including Head of the Spanish Language Program (2015\u20132019). During AY 2026\u201327, she will serve as BU&#8217;s Acting Assistant Dean and Director of Language Instruction<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>A<span data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">lison\u2019s teaching focuses on helping students develop confidence and proficiency through authentic communication, cultural exploration, and meaningful engagement with real-world issues. Committed to accessibility, equity, and inclusion, she strives to create learning environments that challenge students to think critically, communicate effectively, and engage thoughtfully with diverse perspectives<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>I<span data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">n 2021, Alison and colleague Sue Griffin received the CAS Learn from Anywhere Spirit and Creativity Award. In 2024, she was honored with Boston University\u2019s Neu Family Award for Excellence in Teaching<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><span data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">In addition to teaching Spanish language courses, Alison teaches in Boston University\u2019s Core Curriculum (CC 201: Renaissance, Rediscovery, and Reformation) and Writing Program (WR 120: Supernatural Storytelling).
