The theme for this year was reel\/real life, and each of the 7 Francophone films screened this year centered on quests for <span style=\"background: white;\">truth, authenticity, and identity.<\/span>\u00a0Co-organizers Tiffany Bailey, Eleonora Mancuso, and Kara Saar were pleased to see many people from inside and outside the BU community joining and engaging with the world of Francophone cinema.<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; font-family: Aptos; color: black;\"><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white;\"><span class=\"contentpasted0\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; color: black;\">The festival started off with a <span style=\"background: white;\">drama film written and directed by Cambodian-French filmmaker Davy Chou<\/span>, <i>Retour \u00e0 Seoul <\/i>(2022), and it ended with a <span style=\"background: white;\">Moroccan drama by Franco-Moroccan director Nabil Ayouch, <i>Casablanca Beats<\/i>\u00a0(2021).<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; font-family: Aptos; color: black;\"><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white;\"><span class=\"contentpasted0\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; color: black;\">Each film in the Festival was provocative and thoughtfully made. The audience especially enjoyed <i>Casa Susanna, <\/i>a 2022 <span style=\"background: white;\">French documentary directed by S\u00e9bastien Lifshitz<\/span>\u00a0on the <span style=\"background: white;\">underground network of transgender women and cross-dressing men in the Catskills region of New York. The film was followed by a post-screening discussion with French and Cinema Professor Jennifer Cazenave and graduate student Alex Bergson who is pursuing a macro Master of Social Work at BUSSW. Another success was Claire Denis\u2019 1989 film <i>Chocolat <\/i>followed by trivia (and sweet prizes!) focused on Denis\u2019 career and the long history of Cameroon.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; font-family: Aptos; color: black;\"><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white;\"><span class=\"contentpasted0\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt; color: black;\">We thank all those who came and supported us during this entire month dedicated to Francophone cinema.
