In the interview, Prof. Mesch discusses her current research, what drew her to BU, what classes she teaches, and more.<\/p>\n<p>Below is an extract from the interview, Prof. Mesch&#8217;s response to a question about what drew Prof. Mesch to her study of the Belle \u00c9poque in France:<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;So many of the things that we associate with modern pleasures and contemporary forms of entertainment actually started in nineteenth-century France: from photography to shopping in department stores to the explosion of the mass press.
