The Cam\u00f5es@Harvard Committee is especially eager to consider abstracts from disciplines that are historically underrepresented in Cam\u00f5es Studies.<\/p>\n<p>Harvard University currently holds one of the world&#8217;s largest collections of rare editions of the works of Lu\u00eds Vaz\u00a0de Cam\u00f5es in its Houghton Library and, to celebrate the 450th anniversary of the publication of<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>Os Lus\u00edadas<\/em>, will host a series of virtual and in-person events with scholars from around the world throughout the fall semester of 2022.<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>Cam\u00f5es@Harvard<\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>is organized by Harvard&#8217;s Department of Romance Languages and Literatures (RLL) and will kick off its events with a conference October 13-15 2022. Presentation proposals will be accepted until<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>October\u00a031<sup>st<\/sup>, 2021.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Presentations can include, yet are not limited to, any of the following topics:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span><\/span>Cam\u00f5es\u2019 legacy in world cultures and literatures;<\/li>\n<li><span><\/span>critical reception of Cam\u00f5es&#8217; works<em>;<\/em><\/li>\n<li><span><\/span>bibliographic approaches to editions of<span><\/span><em>Os Lus\u00edadas<\/em>;<\/li>\n<li><span><\/span>translations of Cam\u00f5es into other languages;<\/li>\n<li><span><\/span>decolonial\/postcolonial studies and the role of<span><\/span><em>Os Lus\u00edadas<\/em><span>\u00a0<\/span>in the Portuguese Empire;<\/li>\n<li><span><\/span>the Portuguese maritime expansion and its impact on Africa, Asia and the Americas;<\/li>\n<li><span><\/span>contemporary debates on power and colonialism which offer reassessments of the sixteenth century epic;<\/li>\n<li><span><\/span>comparisons between the work of Cam\u00f5es and of other poets and artists;<\/li>\n<li><span><\/span>artistic interpretations of the Cam\u00f5es&#8217; works\u00a0from around the world.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Artistic contributions and perspectives that challenge canonical readings of Cam\u00f5es are welcome. There will be no registration fee.<\/p>\n<p>Abstracts of no more than 200 words may be submitted in English or Portuguese to<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"mailto:camoes@fas.harvard.edu\"><strong>camoes@fas.harvard.edu<\/strong><\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>by<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>October\u00a031<sup>st<\/sup>,\u00a02021<\/strong>.
