{"id":23065,"date":"2021-07-12T12:06:06","date_gmt":"2021-07-12T16:06:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/rs\/?p=23065"},"modified":"2021-07-12T12:06:06","modified_gmt":"2021-07-12T16:06:06","slug":"newbury-seminar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/rs\/2021\/07\/12\/newbury-seminar\/","title":{"rendered":"Newbury Seminar"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The\u00a0Archive:\u00a0Theory, Form, Practice<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Fridays, February 11 &#8211; April 8, 2022<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Newberry Library invites graduate students in\u00a0the\u00a0humanities to apply for a seminar that will explore\u00a0the\u00a0theoretical, critical, and practical methods necessary to negotiate historical and literary\u00a0archives.\u00a0The\u00a0seminar will be held on eight Fridays from February 11 &#8211;\u00a0 April 8, 2022 (with no meeting on Feb. 25).\u00a0The\u00a0course will be led by Liesl Olson (Director of Chicago Studies, Newberry Library) and a team of Newberry archivists and curators, including Alison Hinderliter and Catherine Grandgeorge.\u00a0The\u00a0seminar will include guest presentations by visiting faculty.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0seminar will provide graduate students with a set of tools essential to doctoral research in any\u00a0archive. Students will acquire skills that will also broaden\u00a0their opportunities for career diversity by exposing students to archival work at an independent research library.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0course is ideal for PhD candidates in or beyond\u00a0their third year of doctoral studies. A cohort of 18 graduate students will be selected to participate.\u00a0Each participant will receive a $500 award,\u00a0and lunch will be provided each session.\u00a0Travel funding for students outside of\u00a0the\u00a0Chicago area is also\u00a0available.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Applicants will be notified on September 15, 2022<\/strong>.
